At one point or another, most of us have been able to relate to the sentiment, “there just isn’t enough hours of the day.” From working a full-time job (and everything that comes along with that), picking up the kids, going to the grocery store, attending your cousin’s wedding, and trying to maintain some semblance of a social life; the demands of the modern world almost seem too much.

But is it?

While feeling overwhelmed with your “to do” list is common enough, you need only look around to see that there does exist some top-performing people who somehow manage to get it all done. Are they in some way special? Do they have superpowers? Can they travel in time? The answer to all of them is a resounding no, that is unless you count time-management as a superpower. And if you do, then sit back because you are about to learn some incredible tricks to get everything you want to get done in a day and more by working smarter and not harder.

Start to say “No”

Speaking to the previous sentiment; whenever you feel like you have just too much to do, take a moment, pause, and ask yourself if perhaps you actually do have too much on your plate. More often than not, the reason people feel like they can’t get it all done is that they have taken on more than can get done. Sure, sometimes your the tasks of your job or your personal life can add up without your consent, but you’d be surprised how much actually is within your control. So the next time you get asked to make brownies for the next bake sale the night before a big day at work, exercise some better judgement and say no.

Recognize the Power of Sleep

There seems to be an unhealthy relationship between the sleep and getting a lot done; mainly, that to have the latter, you need to sacrifice the former. Well, you are in luck, because we are here to tell you that simply isn’t true. In fact, people who consistently go through their days sleep deprived are almost guaranteed to make more mistakes, be slower at their jobs, and find themselves unable to concentrate for prolonged periods. If you want to be a consistent performer and handle even the busiest of schedules, you need to start with a good baseline and the begins with listening to your body and aiming for a solid 7-8 hours of sleep a night.

Get an Early Start

Worried you don’t have enough time to get everything done? Maybe you need to get started a little bit earlier! While few people like the idea of having to get up earlier or start work sooner, the fact remains that if you have a lot to do, you need to find the time to do it. If you get your day started just 45 minutes earlier Monday through Friday, you will suddenly find yourself with an extra 4.5 hours of productivity, and that is nothing to sneeze at.
