4 Ways to Have a Solid Work-Life Balance

Work-life spelled out in blocks

Unless you are among a privileged few in this world, chances are you’re going to have to work for a living. And while this is in truth, the reality for about 99% of us, it is by no means a dreary forecast.

One of the most important things to remember throughout your entire career is that you are working to live, not living to work, to celebrate this advice to it’s fullest, you need to accomplish one thing – work/life balance.

Working and being successful can incredibly fulfilling, but so can life. That is why it is essential to set some ground rules and implement some practices to ensure you are getting the most out of both your lives; work and personal.

So on that note, here are some tried, tested, and true methods to help you achieve the incredibly important but often elusive work-life balance.

Stick to what you’re good at

While you may feel like you are sometimes, or at least, that is what the expectations of you are, but in reality, you’re not a superhero. What does that mean? Well, simply put, you can’t be all things to all people, which is why you should stick to your strengths. For example, if you are good at customer-facing tasks but need improvement on the administrative side of things, work towards making that a more significant part of your day.

Schedule more personal time

Despite what you might believe, let us tell you without any doubt that it is okay to take care of yourself. You are human, you get sick, you get tired, and you need time away from work to do the things that you should be working towards. Not only will this significantly improve your overall happiness, but it will also leave you feeling more rejuvenated and committed to your job, knowing what it allows you to do.

Work set hours

It is easy to burn the candle at both ends, and sometimes, yes, admittedly, it is unavoidable. However, for the most part, it is essential to have a set schedule for work and personal time. Very rarely will anything come up at work, at least around 5 pm, that can’t wait until the next morning. And once you set your routine, you’ll be amazed at how receptive others will be to your personal “hours of operation.”

Manage your mind

All too often, our mental health is among the first things jeopardized when we lack a work/life balance. Tending to your mind can be as simple as going for quiet walks, meditating, reading, or finding something else that allows your mind to focus on other things than work. When you can disengage from work mode, you’ll find yourself not only happier but more productive during the times you are on the clock.
