There is no need to let spam get the best of you at work. Fortunately, if you know the signs of a spam email, you can delete it from your inbox right away. Perhaps best of all, you can take steps to block future spam messages from the same senders going forward.
Common signs of a spam email include:
1. Unknown Sender
Look at who sent you an email. If the message comes from an unknown sender, it may be spam.
Read an email closely. If you notice misspelled words in the subject line or message, the email may be spam.
Do not open email attachments unless they come from known senders. Otherwise, you risk opening a spam message with a malicious attachment that may contain a virus.

Beware any email that sets off antivirus software. If an email comes with a virus warning, it should be avoided.

Install antivirus and antimalware software and keep it up to date. Oftentimes, automatic antivirus and antimalware updates can be set up on business devices and make it simple to block spam messages and other potential cyberattacks.
2. Protect Your Personal Information
Do not give out your work email to anyone outside of your business, and do not share your personal information in work messages. Instead, use your work email exclusively for work activities, and set up a personal email that you can use outside of work.
3. Be Cautious
Err on the side of caution. If you are uncertain about whether an email is legitimate, notify your manager to find out if the message is coming from someone within your company.
Finally, it often helps to engage in cybersecurity awareness training whenever possible. If your business offers a cybersecurity awareness training program, you can use it to learn about spam messages and other cyber threats. Or, if your company lacks a cybersecurity awareness training program, you can encourage your manager to set one up for you and the rest of your team.
