Mental Health Awareness Month is here! Now is a great time to show your employees that you care about their mental health. That way, your workers can feel their best at work moving forward.

Here are tips you can use to show your support for mental health in the workplace.

Teach Your Employees About Mental Health

Research indicates 19.1% of American adults are dealing with an anxiety disorder in a given year. Unfortunately, anxiety and other conditions that impact employees' mental health sometimes go unaddressed. They can make it tough for your employees to feel confident and comfortable in themselves both at work and outside of it.

Share mental health data and research with your workers. If possible, provide your employees with resources to teach them about mental wellness and why they should prioritize it. You can also offer information on what employees should do if they want help with anxiety, depression, or other conditions that can impact their mental health negatively.

Establish Flexible Work Options

You want your workers to maintain a healthy work-life balance. Otherwise, if an employee feels overworked, they are prone to burnout and similar issues. Employees will struggle if they feel exhausted day after day. Thankfully, you can provide them with flexible work options.

For example, you can allow your employees to work remotely. This shows workers you trust them to get their jobs done, regardless of where they complete their day-to-day tasks. At the same time, employees can enjoy more time at home and less time having to worry about commuting to work.

In addition, provide your employees with multiple schedule options. For instance, some workers prefer getting their work done early in the day, while others enjoy working in the afternoon and evening. As long as the work gets done well, provide workers with opportunities to complete tasks at times that fit their lifestyles.

Communicate with Your Workers Regularly

Your employees could be dealing with mental health issues but try to "tough it out" through the work week. Meanwhile, if you don't meet with your employees regularly, you may have no idea how your workers are feeling. As such, an employee's mental health may continue to worsen to the point where it damages their overall well-being for a long time.

Maintain open and honest communication with your workers. Set up a weekly or biweekly check-in with each member of your team. The check-in allows you to share any concerns or questions you have for an employee with them. Furthermore, a worker can speak with you about how they are feeling, and you can help them in any way you can.
